The nights are hot, but the days are hotter…

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

It’s amazing how long the days are but how fast the weeks go by when you’re down here. It feels like you live 3 full days. Mornings have started early with a solid surf session. The midday sun slowly roasts the dry caked earth while most take refuge in the shade of the palms. You drift into an “almost” sleep while swinging lazily in a hammock, on an outdoor massage table, or in the comfort and A/C of your room. After a relaxing second awakening, some of us receive our second wind and go for a run, while others sip a cerveza or happy hour cocktail. Evenings are spent waiting for the wind to go back offshore, the tide to push the swell in, and the sun to set. An evening session usually ensues by those with enough energy before the sun lays down. Then it’s a surprise each night as Rick handpicks our next dining destination.

Even with the cool evening tradewinds, it can still feel hot at night. But in January, one layer to stay warm is well received over however many layers our friends back home are wearing tonight. The sun is setting in its usual spectacular way again, so “to the beach” with all of the other beachgoers to enjoy another evening miracle. Pura Vida!

PS: Did I mention we saw fire dancing jugglers last night?…hot!

Costa Rica 2011: Our clients arrive and the adventure begins!

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

WB Surf Camp’s 2011 Costa Rica Adult Surfing Adventure has kicked off! Our group of clients arrived safely last Saturday as people from all over the country rejoiced about the escape from the frigid climate. After our drive from Liberia airport to Tamarindo, we settled into our luxury rooms and went straight to the ocean for a swim in the 80 degree water. The overall vibe of Costa Rica recharges the soul! While soaking up the beauty of the landscape, each of us let out a sigh of satisfaction, knowing that paradise had officially become our reality for the next week. After viewing the blazing sunset over the Pacific, we joined together and enjoyed fresh local seafood while reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.

After dinner, our group held a brief orientation, reviewing the layout for our epic week ahead. As the sound of crashing waves whispered in the background and stars illuminated the sky, we soaked up the beauty of the evening. Everyone is stoked to be here and the swell forecast is looking great for the week ahead! Exhausted from the full day of traveling, it was soon to bed in preparation for the following full day of fun in the sun. Stay tuned for updates on our surfing adventure! PURA VIDA!

Room with a View! Costa Rica 2011 Kicks Off…

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

Our first official WB Surf Camp Adventure of the year 2011! Our 10th Anniversary year of being in business! What a way to start it off. Costa Rica Adult Surf Adventure begins today. Our president and founder, Rick Civelli has stepped up this year’s program in ways word cannot explain. Even in my imagination, I couldn’t comprehend how amazing this year’s Costa Rica Surf Camp would be without seeing it for myself. The Tamarindo Diria Resort is probably the nicest accommodations I’ve ever stepped foot in, and what a welcomed treat after leaving the cold of a North American winter.

After a couple quick smooth flights we arrived Friday afternoon and swam out in the lineup to rinse off the grime of traveling. Since then we’ve stocked up on goods at the local tienda, eaten massive amounts of fresh sushi, and pounded a gallon of sweet Costa Rican coffee. We woke up this morning to a fresh 8′ long period swell pulsing in through the outgoing tide and we are frothing. Time for preparations for our inbound clients…more to come!
