WB Surf Camp’s Week 2 Caribbean Surf Adventure Comes To A Close

It’s hard to believe that week 2 of our Caribbean surfing adventure has come to an end. Without a doubt, it’s been an amazing week that each participant will never forget! We were fortunate to score a variety of conditions during our second week with waves building in size each day, providing a fun challenge for all.  As clean ground swell filled in Pelican Bay, we traded off waves until our arms turned to jelly while hooting each other on.  After each day of surfing the picturesque bay, we enjoyed fruit smoothies and watched video footage of our waves from the day. Using the tool of video analysis makes a massive positive difference to your surfing skills learning curve. Video analysis can be a lot of fun, even shocking sometimes, while motivating and illuminating too. We shared smiles and laughs as we reminisced our waves from the day, while soaking up tips to apply to our next surf session.

Laurie, Shawn, Megan, and Caitie where each catching waves from the outer sandbar all the way to the beach by the third day of our trip!  It was great seeing their progression and confidence build throughout each session as they improved their skills. Eileen’s surfing looked better than ever for the second week in a row! Catching lefts, rights, and walking up and down the board, she looked extremely comfortable out in the waves. Towards the end of the week we traded off catching waves on “the board of truth”, which is our surfboard with a GoPro mounted on the front, providing an up close and personal view of each ride. It was encouraging  to see how much each person’s technique had improved in a matter of only a few days. Taking a break from the surf, we hiked up a mountain trail to the highest point on the island. While trekking through the mahogany forest, we enjoyed breathtaking views of the Caribbean with neighboring islands in the distance.

The bittersweet departure day always sneaks up faster then expected. As we said our goodbyes and talked about the next surf adventure we would reunite on, each of us went our separate ways. Once again it’s been an amazing WB Surf Camp adventure!

WB Surf Camp’s Caribbean Surf Adventure Week Two: Fire Away!

After an amazing first week of Caribbean surfing with familiar faces and new friends, we are lucky enough to start up another week of incredible experiences! Week 2 is kicking off with an especially high stoke level, with mostly beginners and first time surfers. From the moment many people ride their first wave, a vibrant smile takes over their face, confirming they are hooked for life. After our first full day of surfing, these are the kinds of smiles that were lighting up around the dinner table, as we delighted in a full spread of delicious Caribbean cuisine on our own private island.

Upon arrival in the Caribbean, your senses will be flooded with natural beauty and positive energy. From translucent waters, to breathtaking mountain top views, each moment you find yourself gazing around in awe. Our first surf session was a major success with progression seen by everyone! Each day we start by individually discussing our daily surfing goals and how we plan on reaching them. Through the help of video analysis, we are able to break down each wave ridden at the end of the day and point out specifics of each person’s technique. This is a highly effective tool that allows instructors to coach and critique each slight movement in slow motion. From best waves of the day, to best wipeouts, our group enjoys reliving each surf session in paradise while taking away skills to apply towards the next session.

With waves forecasted to improve over the next few days, everyone is stoked to continue their progression throughout the remainder of our epic Caribbean adventure. Stay tuned to the WB Surf Camp daily Caribbean surf report for updates on conditions and daily photos.

WB Surf Camp Caribbean Week 1 Wrap up

We scored an unbelievable week of consistent chest high and bigger surf here in Pelican Bay for our first session here in the Caribbean. Everyone’s progression levels went through the roof. With at least 2 photo/video sessions from land and more from our array of GoPro cameras per day, we gave feedback each night with everyone learning and picking up a little something from everyone else.

After long days in the turquoise green clear water, an ice cold drink amongst friends and fellow surfers in the evenings was followed by cheers as each good ride was documented and then analyzed. We saw more progression from our return campers than ever before and our newcomers took their surfing to the next level each day while being coached in and out of the water.

Chuck and Eileen were surfing faster than we’ve ever seen them, juicing every wave to the beach. Bryan and Ryan began hooking into big bottom turns and following them up with big smooth top turns. A little wobbly at first, our first time surfer Jaime rode some amazing waves after switching up his stance and locking in his abilities. Shelley saw huge improvements this week with a couple of the biggest sets providing the challenge she was looking for to begin turning her board and working on her acceleration. Jeff, meanwhile, delicately danced across the deck of his longboard refining his cross stepping and nose riding maneuvers.

Departure day is always a bitter sweet moment when we wave goodbye to our friends with whom we’ve shared an amazing time in paradise with and shared our connection with the ocean. After so many consecutive days of surfing though, everyone is spent and stoked. Just a glazed smile telling the tale of having had an awesome time at our Caribbean Surf Camp!
