As I prepare to close up the office for the next four days, I want to make sure I write a post wishing all of our loyal blog readers an incredibly wonderful holiday. Whether you are traveling far and wide to see friends and family or you’re staying home to celebrate, all of us at Surf Camp wish you the very best. I will be home with my husband and two dogs, as well as a couple friends who will be away from their families as well. A walk on the beach will be part of my Christmas Day because to me, this is a meaningful way to enjoy the beauty of the holiday. With the waves lapping the shore and hardly a soul around (although since it will be 70 degrees tomorrow, there may be a few folks out), I can truly appreciate the moment. I will be thinking of my family- mother in New Mexico, father in Thailand, and sister in Delaware- and remembering all the Christmas celebrations we had when I was young. Ah, the memories!

I spoke with someone yesterday who purchased a Gift Surftificate for his nephew to attend Surf Camp, and the uncle was so excited to give it to him for Christmas! His nephew lives here in Wilmington, and his uncle wants to introduce him to surfing “the right way.” I also spoke to a mom in Minnesota (where it was 14 below 0-gulp!) and she has always dreamed of learning to surf. She is going to treat herself to either our Adult Caribbean or Womens Only Camp in 2009. She’ll leave the kids at home with dad while she fulfills her dream. Talking to people such as Sam and Tracy makes me feel that much more blessed that I am part of something as great as Surf Camp, where we provide the opportunity for everyone to experience the feel of surfing in Mother Ocean.

Well, Mr. Big actually came in 2003 but we did not have a blog way back then and we just found these pictures.  He attended one of our full week surf camps and boy was he motivated and determined to learn.  Matter of fact, we could not get him out of the water.  He surfed our favorite breaks and ate at our local go to’s and hung out all day.  It is awesome how many people, especially adults, decide to overcome their fears of the ocean and try surfing. Once they make the decision to try, the rest is up to us to make sure they have a safe, super fun time during their life-changing experience. Our staff and equipment are second to none, and this is why Mr. Big sought us out. What an incredible time he had! Just in case you do not watch TV, Chris Noth plays Mr. Big on the hit HBO show Sex and the City. You should have seen the look on all the ladies faces in camp when Mr. Big showed up for camp. Who knows what celebrity you might be paddling out with in your next Surf Camp adventure!!!

As you can see, Mr. Big took Surf Camp very seriously! One of the many great things about being part of Surf Camp is seeing the different reactions our clients have as they catch their first, second, or hundredth wave. The feeling of accomplishment you get from learning how to surf through us is indescribable. It doesn’t matter what your age, height, weight, or shoe size is, anybody can try surfing. Our instructors are so professional, well-trained and prepared to work with clients of all shapes and sizes.
